ANFET Calls for Grand Unity: Seizing Our Historic Moment in the Summer of 2025

ANFET Editorial June 18, 2025

In these testing times—when the fate of our homeland hangs in the balance amid escalating crises and the looming threat of war with Ethiopia—it is our duty as both insiders and visionaries to propose a future forged in unity. For too long, our discourse and actions have been confined within the boundaries of our individual organizations. Now, more than ever, we must come together.

A Beacon from the Past

Let us draw strength from our history. In the 1980s, the vibrant Eritrean Festival for Independence held l common struggle for freedom at a time when our nation’s future was most uncertain. Similarly, in Kassel, Germany, post-liberation pro-democracy movements transformed that spirit of celebration into a powerful call for reformation and representative governance. These historical gatherings are not merely memories but serve as symbolic foundations upon which we must build our renewed commitment to unity this coming summer.

Transforming Tradition for Today

What was once known as the EPF Annual Festival must be transformed into a broader partnership seminar—one that calls for a grand unity among all key forces challenging our current crisis. Our theme, “Exploring Ways and Securing Time for the Establishment of a Broader Grand Coalition,” is far more than a title. It embodies the collective hope and strategic resolve of our coalition.

Our journey toward a National Political Charter—though painstakingly slow—has reached an encouraging juncture. We now stand on the brink of finalizing a charter that speaks to our shared aspirations, with only two or three differences remaining. With each of us contributing a humble initiative, the formal conclusion of our political dialogue, sealed by signed endorsements, will not only cement this historic achievement but also restore the trust and confidence of our people.

A Call to All Forces

At ANFET Media, we believe in the power of truth and unified action. This call for grand unity extends not only to our established organizations—the Eritrean National Council for Democratic Change, Eritrean Political Forces, and Eritrean Coalition for Democratic Change—but also to the spirited voices of our youth, epitomized by Brigade N’Hamedu. The participation of every organization and every generation is crucial. Our summer gathering promises to be the crucible where these diverse, yet complementary forces blend to shape a resilient, inclusive future.

The Urgency of Our Moment

Now is the time to set aside our differences and act decisively. The stakes have never been higher. By coming together, concluding our dialogue formally, and signing on to our shared charter, we have an unparalleled opportunity to communicate to our people that their voice matters, that unity is our strength, and that hope remains undimmed. Let this be our moment of transformation.

A Public Call to Leadership

This letter is intended for public release and will be sent to the leaders heading our organizations. It is both a declaration of intent and a call to action. We must all stand united as the generation that seized the moment and forged an unbreakable bond in the service of a better Eritrea.

ANFET Media stands ready to facilitate this dialogue and ensure that every insider, every activist, and every young voice is heard in this call for grand unity. The time to act is now—and history will remember us as the generation that united in the face of adversity to reclaim our nation’s future.
