“NCEA” GOVERNMENT OF ERITREA RESPONSE TO THE OPPOISTION REOPORT

The report was a truthful and genuine assessment of the event, supported by pictorial evidence of the mood and number of attendees. We did not exaggerate the numbers; the pictures speak for themselves. The report was authored by San Diego Eritreans who are opposed to the Eritrean government, and we approached it with respect for their dwindling supporters. We concluded with an open invitation to engage with them for the common goal of liberating our people.

In our absence, several critical questions were raised that we address daily by us. These included the absence of a constitution, the fate of jailed political activists and journalists without charge, the deterioration of infrastructure, the fake investment for development schemes, the sanctioning of private buses left to rot in parking lots, and the shifting alliances between Amhara and Tigray, resulting in more deaths. These efforts and questions were credited to British journalist Martin Plaut, who is seen by the opposition as an activist standing with the people and by the Eritrean government as an enemy for raising serious human rights abuses in Eritrea.

To the supporters in San Diego and the surrounding areas, discrediting their questions by attributing them solely to Martin Plaut is a slap in the face. The articles before and after the events, posted by Eritreans opposed to the government, were genuinely produced by a committee that met and discussed the content before publication. Our struggle will continue, and the distance between the opposition and the supporters is ever narrowing.

Thank you for your time and attention.
