The Organization of Eritrean Unity (OEU) has taken a commendable step by calling for a seminar on October 18, 2025, to bring together Eritrean political and civic organizations in order to confront the looming threat of war of aggression by the Ethiopian government. This initiative reflects both foresight and responsibility, and it provides a timely opportunity for Eritrean forces in the diaspora to act in concert.
In recent weeks, several organizations have issued statements on this matter, including OEU itself, Yiakl, and the Eritrean Political Forces (EPF). Each of these declarations has contributed to raising awareness and mobilizing our communities. Among them, the EPF declaration has emerged as the most comprehensive and effective in framing the urgency of the situation, articulating the principles of unity, and outlining a clear call to action.
ANFET, in its role as a coalition media platform, has chosen to promote the EPF declaration not only because of its clarity and strength, but also because it provides the best foundation for building a broad-based campaign. Importantly, a petition based on the EPF declaration is already running on Change.org, open for anyone concerned to sign — including Ethiopians and even supporters of the PFDJ. This demonstrates that the EPF declaration is not only principled but also capable of mobilizing a wide and diverse audience.
We believe that adopting a common declaration is essential to avoid fragmentation, duplication, or mixed messaging at this critical juncture. Therefore, ANFET respectfully proposes that OEU consider formally adopting one of the existing declarations, preferably the EPF’s—as the shared platform for the task force you are now initiating. Doing so would:
Strengthen unity of message by ensuring that all organizations speak with one voice.
Accelerate the formation of the task force by avoiding prolonged debates over drafting new texts.
Demonstrate humility and maturity by showing that Eritrean organizations can rally around the strongest ideas, regardless of origin.
Maximize international credibility by presenting a unified Eritrean diaspora stance against aggression.
Leverage existing momentum by aligning with the EPF petition that is already circulating and gathering support across communities.
In addition, we advise OEU to consider jointly planning with the established Diplomacy Group, which already encompasses the majority of opposition diaspora organizations working actively together. Partnering with this group would boost the reach of your initiative, add energy to the campaign, and ensure that diplomatic engagement is coordinated and amplified across all fronts.
We emphasize that this proposal is not about subordinating one organization to another but about building a collective shield against external threats. By adopting the EPF declaration as a common reference point and working hand-in-hand with the Diplomacy Group, OEU would be exercising leadership in the most constructive sense: guiding the community toward consensus and coordinated action.
The October 18 seminar can then serve as the launchpad for a joint task force mandated to:
Develop a coordinated campaign against war threats.
Mobilize Eritrean communities worldwide.
Engage international partners and media with a unified message.
Ensure that Eritrean voices of peace, sovereignty, and justice are heard clearly and consistently.
In this spirit, ANFET offers its full support to OEU’s initiative and stands ready to collaborate in shaping the task force, amplifying its message, and ensuring that Eritrean unity is not only declared but demonstrated in practice.
History will judge us not by the number of statements we issue, but by the unity and resolve we show in moments of danger. Let us seize this opportunity to act together, with clarity, humility, and determination.
Respectfully submitted,
