Eritrean Pro-Justice Organizations form a Unified Taskforce to Combat the Regime’s Transnational Repression
A coalition of Eritrean organizations fighting for justice has formally established a taskforce to combat PFDJ’s Transnational Repression. This unified taskforce, organized under the name of “Eritrean Transnational Repression Response Taskforce” shall work to coordinate and harmonize the efforts to confront and counter the escalating campaign of transnational repression activities conducted by the Eritrean regime and its surrogates against Eritrean activists and communities in the Diaspora.
The establishment of this coordinated effort follows months of sustained consultations and discussions on how to counter the Eritrean regime’s intensified activities of its well-established practices of transnational repression targeting Eritrean activists in the Diaspora. These actions, which follow directives from Asmara, are coordinated by the regime’s embassies abroad, and are conducted through a well-established network of political, community, religious entities, and digital media propagandists, collectively organized as the “Fourth Front” or 4G. PFDJ’s transnational repression methods include online disinformation campaigns, surveillance, harassment, coercion, intimidation, ostracization, assault, kidnapping, poisoning, assassination, cyber-attacks, misuse of host-country legal systems, and pressure on families inside Eritrea, which are internationally recognized by the FBI and other International bodies as patterns of Transnational Repression.
The taskforce’s key tasks include:
Protect Eritrean activists and communities in the Diaspora from threats by the Eritrean regime.
Support legal defence efforts of Eritrean activists targeted through lawsuit by the regime’s operatives in Diaspora.
Gathering information about hidden transnational illegal activities or the Eritrean PFDJ regime that violate laws of host countries.
Exposing and reporting the regime’s networks and operatives operating under social, religious, and other covers.
Coordinating international advocacy with pro-democracy institutions and human rights organizations.
Strengthen the worldwide collective capacity of Eritrean pro-justice movements in defeating the Eritrean regime’s activities of transnational repression.
This historic step marks the first time major Eritrean pro-justice organizations have formed a coordinated operational body, specifically dedicated to confronting transnational repression. This is a great opportunity to unify the efforts of all Eritrean Diaspora communities to stand in unison to protect our rights and defeat the regime’s illegal oppressive practices. The Taskforce will immediately start operating under a unified set of guidelines. Credit and apprecition goes to Bayto Yiakil USA for the tireless efforts that led to the formation of this Task Force.
This Taskforce brings together representatives from the following Eritrean pro-justice organizations, and more pro-justice entities are encouraged to join.
-The Eritrean National Council for Democratic Change (ENCDC),
-The Eritrean Political Forces (EPF),
-The Eritrean Coalition for Democratic change (ECDC),
– The Organization of Eritrean Unity (OEU),
– The Seedling for Peace and Democracy in Eritrea (SPDE),
-Eritrean Global Yiakil Movement (EGYM).
